about

The Tampuan is an indigenous population from Ratanakiri province, Northeastern Cambodia. There are approximately 30,000 Tampuan people. They have their own language and many of the elders continue to follow animist beliefs.
This sound has been played on a Tampuan field, few kilometres south of Yeak Loam Lake. The whole village gathers to celebrate the seeding of their rice plantation. Everyone has a role. Some of them install braided bamboo panels on the shelter, others prepare food using bamboos as cookers, and the cultural leaders educate the youth and elders about their culture, traditions and folklore in order to preserve them.
This ritual is accompanied by self-made music instruments such as gongs, tros (string instruments), and bamboo flutes. The feast, composed of meat and rice, takes place before a performance of music and dance.
